https://scout.com/mlb/rumors/Article/Ma ... -109052621Another later round pick to perform well in the Arizona League was corner infielder Ryan Costello. The 31st round pick out of Central Connecticut State put his power on display, knocking out a team high eight home runs which was also good enough for second in the entire league. Unlike a lot of young power hitters though, Costello also displayed good contact ability slashing .331/.430/.634 with a 175 wRC+ and .464 wOBA. Part of the intrigue of Costello also comes in his XBH ability. Of Costello's 47 hits, only 23 were singles. The other 24 were composed of 13 doubles, three triples and the aforementioned eight long balls.

From Mariners Farm Report:

The Mariners used the 933rd pick of last June’s draft of 1B Ryan Costello, a 6’2” 200lb left-handed hitting first baseman out of Central Connecticut State University. He’s since split time between the AZL Mariners and Clinton LumberKings, and he’s done more of what he did for three years in college—hit for average, steadily increase his power output, and walk nearly as much as he strikes out. His current 144 wRC+ and .279/.383/.509 actually seem pretty sustainable considering he’s running a very manageable .308 BABIP on the season. His 37 RBI leads all Mariners minor leaguers, and he’s now plated 75 runs in 94 career games. After working exclusively as a third baseman in 2017, he’s been deployed as Clinton’s first baseman all season long, indicating that’s where the organization sees his future, however, his advancement through the system may depend more on Evan White’s development than his own, as he’s currently manning first in Modesto.

Off to a good start, but a long way to go. If he continues at this pace (its still a small sample) he will earn a promotion to AA next year, maybe even later this year, depending on what the Mariner's organization views him as a prospect.
We need an alum in big leagues, good luck to Ryan.

Keep an eye on our guy, Ryan Costello. At the “A” mid-season break he’s leading the Clinton Lumberkings in almost every offensive category including homeruns (14), hits (72), doubles (18), RBI (58), total bases (136), and 4th in BA (.287).

An excellent 1st half of the season! It's the best case scenario, you really could not ask for much better.
