Dolegala unleashes that big arm again when he plays the second half against the Colts, would he go through waivers unclaimed? We’re not talking about a backup safety or undrafted guard, here. It’s the most important position in the league and there aren’t 32 of them.
We have been expressing the same sentiment in posts on this thread. This writer realizes, as (I am sure) do the Bengals, that putting Dolegala on the practice squad may for all practical purposes be giving him away.
There is no way that in a league where teams take enormous gambles on drafting QBs that someone is not going take a low risk gamble on a 6'6" 240 lb QB who has looked good in exhibition games.

And the Bengals are playing the Colts who as "Luck" would have it, are in sudden need of a quarterback.

Yep and there were some tweets at the time that the Colts has some interest in signing Jake after the draft. Jake’s agent recommended he sign with the Bengals in part because of the Cincy coaches.

Jake has made the most of this opportunity and he has to like the position he is in right now.

What a night for Jake. Played all 4Q of the game and looks to have locked up a roster spot somewhere in the NFL
Dolegala put on a show from the jump, whipping the ball with a wicked-strong arm and moving up and down the field. He finished with a 28-of-43 line with 254 yards.

This was another statement from the undrafted rookie, who might just force the Bengals to roster three quarterbacks for fear another team could poach him.
https://bengalswire.usatoday.com/2019/0 ... -phillips/

If the Cincinnati Bengals can take one thing away from the 13-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the final preseason game before a crowd of 35,247 at Paul Brown Stadium, it is this: If they need Jake Dolegala, they can count on him. Dolegala played the whole game. He was 26-for-41 for 254 yards and came within a yard of getting a potential game-tying or game-winning score.

"Jake did a nice job," head coach Zac Taylor said. "He's a good kid who goes about the right way. You pull for him. He led (the offense) down at the very end of game for us to have a chance to win it. Unfortunately, we didn't punch it in."

Dolegala's, an undrafted rookie free agent from Central Connecticut, best chance to make it is get on the practice squad. He would have to clear waivers for that to happen. It's unlikely the Bengals will carry three quarterbacks.

"Stressful," Dolegala said when asked how the next two days will be. Cut-down day is Saturday.

"It don't know what will happen," he said. "It's out of my hands now."

Thursday's game was huge chance for him.

"It was great," Dolegala said. "I've got a bunch of film for this coaching staff and other teams to look at. I think I left in all on the field."

Should Jake Dolegala make the Bengals’ final 53-man roster?
Has the undrafted rookie shown enough in the preseason to care out a spot on the team’s final 2019 roster?

The Cincinnati Bengals have some very tough decisions to make this coming weekend. As the team wrapped up its final preseason game of 2019, it appears another quandary has reared its head in the quarterback position group.

Rookie Ryan Finley has had a great preseason and has taken a stranglehold on the backup quarterback spot behind starter Andy Dalton. The performances of both Finley and Jake Dolegala has seemingly made Jeff Driskel expendable.

Maybe it’s the magic in that No. 7 Bengals jersey, but Dolegala has been impressive in the past couple of weeks. He has built upon some nice camps, where rave reviews grew about his live arm after being a relatively unknown rookie out of Central Connecticut.

Dolegala finished the preseason with a stat line of 28-of-42 for 254 yards against the Colts. That was a follow-up to 10-of-12 for 94 yards and two scores against the Giants.

Has he done enough to solidify a final roster for himself this summer? Let’s have a look at both sides of the argument.

Tweets suggesting Jake made the Bengals 53-man roster. If true, this is absolutely fantastic for Jake and CCSU football.

He absolutely deserves this and I think has the chance to have a very successful career in the NFL.

Did You Know?

Quarterback Jake Dolegala becomes the first player from Central Connecticut to make a NFL Regular Season roster since Rich Ranglin (OL) was on the Kansas City Chiefs roster for the final 4 weeks of the 2012 season.

Congratulations to Jake!
He earned it with his pre season performances. Now he has to grab his clipboard and baseball cap, stand on the sidelines and learn. Hopefully, he will get an opportunity somewhere down the road to show what he can do.

Remember, if Cincy opts to bench Dalton, the next in line probably won't be Jake.
I watched some of the game last night and the problem is that the O line cannot protect the QB and when they do Dalton holds the ball too long. Of course that can mean the receivers are not open. I don't know if throwing a rookie into that line of fire is going to turn out well.
But then again...
As a Pats fan I remember complaining about the their O line back in 2001 not being able to protect Bledsoe (a former all star QB). And then he got hurt and some new guy named Brady took over and all of sudden the Pats O line looked pretty good.
