There is no new field house at Eastern either.

CSUS updated their website and now we can finally read all the Master Plans for the CSUS campuses!

http://www.ct.edu/about/planning/projects/

Of course Central's is the oldest, approved back in 1999. If you read it you will see how little has been accomplished in a decade. Pay special attention to pg 57 and evaluate how much of was planned and what was actually completed. We are way behind everyone else and it is very depressing ....

By comparison, Eastern's plan was approved this year (2009) and it is over 100 pages and very impressive. Not to mention their campus already looks great compared to what we have.

Yeah...I had to review CCSU's master plan and approve it for my agency. Frankly, it sucked but it was passable. If it was done for another school, I would have had them do sections over. As it was, I had to pull our director of facilities and the head of facilities for the CSUS into the office and have them re-do sections.

Just by comparing the size of the PDF I can tell you the master plan Centrals sucks. It was created in the time of Judd and should have been addressed. ( deleted and redone ) when Miller took over.

Here is a silly queston.

What ever happend to CSU 2020?

I heard on the radio about a few state bonded projects starting in the new year (not at the CSU's) and am curious why the other areas of the state can get bond money and not he CSU's.

That's because the CCSU document is just a PDF scan of an 11-year old document. The other 3 documents are actual electronic copies all prepared by Symmes Maini & McKee Associates of Cambridge, MA. I hope they are working on CCSU's plan now, but how would we know - CCSU hasn't told us anything!

FYI - Here's is a quick list of projects in the CCSU plan that were not even started:
1) Willard-DiLoreto Infill building
2) New Academic Building (near Maloney)
3) Fieldhouse
4) Library addittion
5) New Daycare?
6) Art & Theater addittion?
7) New Housing I (240 beds)
8) New Hosuing II (225 beds)
9) Science & Tech addition
10) Dining/Food Service addition
11) New Hosuing III (240 beds)
12) New Admisssions building

If only this vision ever came to be reality. CCSU would be a beautiful campus. A first class regional / comprehensive school campus. CCSU would have no problem attracting top notch students and it's coaches would have no problem competitively recruiting in the region.

Well, it is an election year so I'm sure we will hear plenty of shallow and hollow promises surfacing pretty soon.

Proverb

the more things change, the more they stay the same

1. A proverb making the observation that turbulent changes do not affect reality on a deeper level other than to cement the status quo.

Nothing much changes at CCSU - yes the campus looks much better than when I attended but in the word of Obama "its like putting lipstick on a pig".
CCSU students, alum and the admin are apathetic (see letter to editor link below)

The only thing that counts for the basetball program is Detrick Gym, and to be honest it isn't all that bad. St. Mary's in California has had great success with a similar facility.

Gotta disagree with you on this one. It’s a joke! The front entrance way is nice however the gym itself is ridiculous! The seating is awful, the sound system is worse; there is absolutely no home court advantage whatsoever. The bathrooms are old and getting gross. Let’s not forget the pie plates! Oh the pie plates! They aren’t even in order! Detrick is a high school facility and nothing more.

I still say knock down the bubble, build a field house and then renovate Detrick to give the students the amenities they took away from the bubble.

It's servicable though. The only thing that coutns si the court. St. Mary's gym seats 3,500. The only thing they have that we don't is a student section and I'm sceptacle on whether or not students would actually show up iven if tehy did ahve a studnet section. CCSU is falling behind it's peers in New England / New York / New Jersey in athletic facilites, but we can't use that as an excuse for losing. The batherroms are horrible, but that doesnt' affect tha game on teh court.

A gym DOES matter when potential recruits prefer not to play in it.
