https://centralrecorder.org/66782/news/ ... struction/In Fall 2017, Central Connecticut broke ground for the construction of the Huang Family Recreation Center; two years later, the $25 million building is still under construction.
Originally, the two-story recreation center was set to open in Spring 2019 but is now said to be delayed until Spring 2020. Based on information from Lawrence Brunoli Inc. General Contractors website, the project is about 55 percent complete.
The project manager could not be reached for comment.
Recreation Center updates
Re: Recreation Center updates
Well I guess it was to be expected for a State project, but the new recreation center is behind schedule per The Recorder.

Re: Recreation Center updates
Being selfish, my main concern is about the seating for BB. Does this delay mean another year of losing more half the seating?
Re: Recreation Center updates
You’re not being selfish at all Hill. Having a fully functional gym, even as old and decrepit as Kaiser is, is critical to a viable program.
It all deals with access and egress as it pertains to fire codes and I have no idea if construction is far enough along to resolve that issue.
It would be great if an announcement was made with an update on this given the importance of using those seats.

Re: Recreation Center updates
Agreed. I assume they are waiting to see what progress has been made by the first exhibition game in November. They don’t want to make promises right now they can’t keep. And I assume they don’t want to share bad news before it necessary and only after they have tried everything to make it work the right way.
If construction hasn’t allowed for the needed egress on the south side of the gym, they will probably have no choice but to limit seating capacity. I’m guessing the final decisions regarding the bleachers will be made by State building officials and fire marshal. Probably not anything the AD has any control over.

We have this crappy gym, so lets see what we can do to make it far worse! ](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)

Re: Recreation Center updates
Sure feels that way sometimes. God this is gonna suck again. So many people crammed into the season ticket side, visitors not knowing where to go, and being annoying to boot. Kids trying to get right in the middle, being chased out, all interrupting the game. Ugh.hilltopper wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2019 8:35 pm We have this crappy gym, so lets see what we can do to make it far worse!![]()

Re: Recreation Center updates
Conflicting news. The New Britain Herald indicates the Rec Center will be completed by the end of the year.
http://www.newbritainherald.com/NBH-New ... 0year-planAnother new addition that will be completed this semester is the Huang Recreation Center.
The new recreation center is a $26 million project that after 18 months of development replaces the outdated Kaiser Annex Bubble.
“It’s something for our student body for a health and wellness perspective,” Cintorino said.

"CCSU breaks ground on new Recreation Center
Will replace outdated Kaiser Annex Bubble
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Oct. 26, 2017
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Say goodbye to the “bubble” at Central Connecticut State University. This afternoon, the University broke ground for a new 61,000 square foot recreation center that will replace the Kaiser Annex bubble. Due to the inclement weather, the ceremony took place inside the bubble which will soon be deflated for the start of construction.
A two-story, steel-frame structure will be built on Kaiser Annex site and will connect to Kaiser Hall, the home of Blue Devil Athletics. Funded through the state’s CSUS 2020 infrastructure improvement program, the new building will replace the 34,000 square foot, air-supported fabric structure constructed in 1991.
