Former Gov. Malloy to lead Univ. of Maine System

Post by J.J. »

So the Governor who set back Connecticut higher education system back decades was hired to lead the University of Maine system.
Former Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has been named the chancellor of the University of Maine System in a unanimous vote early Thursday, officials said.

Malloy, who left office earlier this year after two-terms as Connecticut’s governor, transitioned into higher education with a posting as a visiting professor at Boston College.

“Dan Malloy is an executive leader and public servant committed to taking on complex change initiatives and getting the job done,” said James Erwin, chair of the UMS board of trustees. “As governor he delivered reforms and structural changes to state government that were not always popular, and certainly not expedient, but that advanced the long term interest of his state and its citizens."

The university system enrolls roughly 30,000 students across seven campuses. The board of trustees planned a public announcement of Malloy’s unanimously approved appointment Thursday morning. He will suceed the outgoing chancellor, James Page, who retires in a month.

I don't want to get into politics, at least not here.
Good luck to U of Maine.
