Re: Univ. of New Haven to NEC?
Univ-New Haven, Merrimack, C W Post, looks like our schedule is on a collision course with 1960’s. That’s fine with me as long as I can go back to the same weight and have same amount hair on my head as I did then. It would also helpful if the State of Connecticut went back to providing the same percentage of support to higher education as it did back then. And while we are on the subject let’s have the Federal government get rid of the Pell Grant system, which is nothing more than voucher system anyway, and return to providing direct support to the institutions.
Re: Univ. of New Haven to NEC?
At first I was a bit ticked but thinking about it some more, why not? It adds two local games in both Football and Basketball. Their football team has always been pretty good, not sure on basketball still, at least they are close and RMU wont be around here forever w/ that new arena.
Re: Univ. of New Haven to NEC?
I agree Hoops. I wasn’t too keen on it but it does help maintain our conference football status which was getting pretty dicey a couple of years ago.
CCSU’s budget is so tight, I’m all for playing a local team (local for you guys anyway) in any sport as opposed to traveling hundreds of miles.

Student newspaper is reporting that the University of New Haven seeks to upgrade athletic status.

The question is will the NEC bite? I hope not!

Re: Univ. of New Haven to NEC?
Unfortunately, I think the NEC will welcome them. They are a perfect fit...a relatively small private school with a football team to bolster that sport in the conference.
Besides, they have to be ready for when Bryant joins the Patriot League.
BTW, While D-1 may help enrollment in the upper echelon of the division, I really don’t think it plays much of a factor at this level. I have nothing to back that up...it’s just an opinion.

Re: Univ. of New Haven to NEC?
Curious, why is this a bad idea? Gives us access to closer away games, Bryant is definitely looking to pull out I’d imagine and at least it’s a school in the Northeast. Let’s face it, we’re here to stay. AE ain’t knocking on our door.
Re: Univ. of New Haven to NEC?
Valid point Hoops. I guess I’m sick of the NEC being the entry level point of D-1 and CCSU being the only public institution but I just better get used to it. It’s just the way it is.
Definitely a plus from forming an in state rival to budgetary concerns.

NONE. It's the NEC or bust for New Haven.newbritainite wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 9:34 am What are the other options besides the NEC?

That's their dilemma. If an established, small college like Hartford can't cut D-I in America East, then New Haven has no hope other than the Northeast Conference.

Wish they could take our spot and we take Hartford’s

The America East is a perfect fit for CCSU in terms of peers and geographical footprint.
CCSU could stay in the NEC for football!
The NEC should offer full scholarship football.

Re: Univ. of New Haven to NEC?
The NEC won't let us keep football if we left for America East (see Monmouth and RMU). That is unlikely to change for us anytime in the future.newbritainite wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 7:51 pmThe America East is a perfect fit for CCSU in terms of peers and geographical footprint.

We would need America East to sponsor football as part of this conference realignment. That's why this is only a dream and not reality.

Re: Univ. of New Haven to NEC?
Not too sound too much like an a$$ but seriously what would the NEC look like without us? Duquesne every year. Fun.
